SD card wont mount after 2.3.4 update

this has happened on two phones now, and I still cant figure out why. After the 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 updates came out my phone wont recognize my SD card. On both phones, I had my 8g card which i pulled from my old IRIS, and it worked fine. When the first phone failed I went back to VZW and they sent me another, the second phone. Once I put the SD card in, it work perfectly. Some how the 2.3.4 update got applied, could have my my girlfriend, and now my phone wont let me access the SD card again. Under the Settings>SD & Phone Storage it wont show that my SD card is even in. When I remove the card, which i cleaned, and re-insert it, it tells me its Preparing card, then a second later states Card Removed, which it has not been.

Im at a loss as to what is going on, I would rather not have to go back to VZW and get another replacement. Anyone have this same issue, or a solution to it?
