So I'm not sure where I found this info but there is a method #4 for all non-developer types, and you can spit out a start up sounds in about 10 minutes. Thanks to whoever mucked through this and left their results for me to regurgitate here. If I can figure out shut down sounds i'll put them up as well. Fair warning prepare for me to seek more help fixing my baby O:)

You'll need
1. Root Explorer (cost=<$4.00)
2. Audacity open source sound editor (or anything comparable that you choose)

Clip up your sound file of choice in audacity. Export as .wav file.
Move to SD card.
Use root explorer to navigate to /system/etc and find the PowerOn.wav file, and rename to PowerOn.wav.old
Locate your custom start up sound, copy and paste into /system/etc
Rename to PowerOn.wav being sure to use the capitals exactly as I have. Reboot and enjoy your new start up sound.

I just succesfully loaded up a file I made out of a song I like, booted up without a hitch and enjoyed my shiney new boot sound.

thank you sir. i have plagerized this on post 3.
