I have been on an iphone for a while but I am coming back to android. My last device was a DInc with gingerbread so I am looking forward to what Jelly Bean has to offer. I just picked up a certified pre-owned galaxy nexus from verizon with an off contract price of $229.99. Not a bad deal because I confirmed with verizon that I can swap this phone with my iphone and keep my unlimited data.
It looks like from the description the phone will come with ICS. I want to unlock the bootloader, root it and upgrade it to Jelly Bean as soon as possible. My question is what order should I do these in? I was planning on using the Nexus Root Kit from Wug to get this done quickly. I plan on signing in to the phone then immediately unlocking the boot loader because I know that will wipe the device. Then should I root or grab the OTA Jelly Bean update first and then root? I don't want to have be bothered with unrooting to only root again if rooting the phone blocks the OTA update. I plan on using stock Jelly Bean for a while to see how it is before putting a custom ROM on the phone. Also, does it matter when I activate the phone with verizon for any of this? Can I setup the phone on wifi, get the OTA to Jelly Bean and then activate or should I just activate right away?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am excited about being back on android soon!
Here is where I found the deal on the Galaxy Nexus in case anyone is interested:
