Settings -> Developer Options -> Window animation scale -> off

Settings -> Developer Options -> Transition animation scale -> off

If you don't like the animations anyways (I've never cared for them) -- turning these off will really make your screen and window transitions scream!

I went the opposite direction, I have both of mine set to 2x. Looks so smooth.

+1. I've done this and it makes the phone much faster, or seems to do so. Note that in previous versions of Android, you had only three options: all animations (windows and transitions), some animations (just transitions), and none. This gives you a lot of fine tuning.

Note also that if you set window animations to .5 or off, you'll lose the TV shut off effect whwn you put the phone in sleep mode.
