no touch sounds or screen lock sound at all

I definitely have the popping sound that has been discussed in other threads, but as far as I can tell, I am not getting any sound at all associated with touching the screen or the screen locking. All volumes are maxed and both selections are checked. Even if I put the speaker up to my ear, I can't hear anything immediate, only the faint popping sound shortly after a key press. I don't care that much about the touch sounds or the locking sound, but I'm concerned this may be indicative of some kind of hardware issue. Should I go through the hassle of exhanging it?

i don't get those sounds either. wonder if some of these phones are defective.
