Any way to increase USB transfer speeds?

I'm trying to transfer a file and it is extremely slow. Seems to be going around 300 kb/s.

I have found that when I need to copy a large file like a full length HD movie to my phone, I do it right after a battery pull. It transfers so much faster! Here's the info I posted:

I agree. I started using WiFi File Explorer Pro, and absolutely love it. Quick and simple to use and there is no setup needed. Not to mention, it saves on the wear and tear of constantly plugging and unplugging the phone all the time too.

The original question was about how to increase usb transfer speeds though.

I get around 1 MB/s over USB 2.0 to my nexus s. Using wifi does not improve the speed. I have verified that the device is running in high-speed mode (capable of 480 Mbit/s), so the bottleneck must be in the device itself, likely the internal SD card.
