Did I need to Root for free hot spot?

I feel great relief after unlocking and rooting. However after loading Portable wifi hot spot widget, I wonder if it would have worked unrooted.

I did enjoy freezing bloatware with TBu.

Search for "Tether" apps in the Play Store and see which ones will work with your device(s). Keep in mind that you are still subject to data allowances since the tethered device will be pulling data from your Mobile Phone, which is taking from your account.

I've used "Portable wifi hot spot widget" before, on my Galaxy Nexus. It works fine on the Note2. I still have unlimited data, no worries. Just wondering, openly, if I needed to Root for it to work. Unfortunately I didn't try it beforehand. So I guess I will neverk now.
