Custom ROM Development Community

This may be a post better suited for the Galaxy Note forum, but here goes. I love the idea of the Note 2 on Verizon, but I'm wondering about the development community for the Note. Do you run into more restrictions with the S Pen technology? Does that stuff still work with custom ROMS?

I'm currently on a rapidly aging Thunderbolt and I'm eligible to upgrade in November. I'll see what kind of Nexus devices come out around then, but the Note 2 does look like a great device.
