That FCC article is interesting. Wasn't it about that time last year that Verizon dropped the unlimited data?

I just got the Samsung Note 2, take me a while to figure out, here is the whole steps to get it going.
The key is to update the Samsung USB driver for mobile phone from the Samsung site. the file is about 23M, make sure to pick the exact model name which is SGH-I317
Once download is finished, install the new drivers.
Next step is to download the windows desktop software from the Pdanet site, here is the link. Download PdaNet+
You might have to reinstall the old version if you have one.
I got it to work finally with a bit of try and error.

I also found out there is another program that works for me, it is called EasyTether

Good luck for all of you Tethering

Is your phone still working with pdanet? I am wanting a note 2 and also use pdanet. I, too, have the grandfathered unlimited plan. I heard a rumor from Verizon they may force us to change soon. Way to reward customer loyalty, right?
How do you like the note 2?

Amanda, Yes it does work great. I haven't used it in a few weeks though... I had purchased the full version ($15.99) a couple years ago and had to use the USB cable between my phone (Thunderbolt) and laptop....so all I had to do was upgrade it to the PdaNet+foxfi and now it's wireless!

I Love Love Love the Note 2! It is by far the best phone I have ever owned!

I hear you on the customer loyalty (lack of) I have been with VSW for almost 13 years!

Hope you enjoy the Note 2 if you get one!

if you have the share everything plan. there is a free app already installed on your phone.

    it's called verizon mobile hotspot.

and as far as the drivers go. they don't work on my laptop or my pc. neither computer recognizes my phone\

i actually have to resort to an ftp app on my phone to access my phones internal drives. or sd card for that matter.

and both computers were freshly formatted the day i got my note.

We are on the old "Family Share" plan, so we don't get that. So for now the PdaNet works perfectly for my needs when I occasionally need to use my laptop in the car on the road.

I stopped using pdanet when i found foxfi. super easy to set up and use. unlike pdanet you do not have to download a companion app onto the device you wish to tether too. with foxfi its like creating your own hotspot that anyone can use as long as you give them your password.

i have a grandfathered family share unlimited line.......and i'll do anything i have to to keep it. when verizon tries to take it away from me I will walk away with my five lines to a different carrier...

sure they give you a hotspot for free with the tiered plans cuz they want you to gulp down data and then have to keep bumping up your plans data. I can't figure how you would even consider using the hotspot if all you had was 1 or 2 gb of shared data. brilliant on verizons part considering revenue is their goal.

I completely agree about the data and such! Pretty greedy! I understand things cost money, but the amount they Charge is getting out of hand! I too am holding onto unlimited for as long as I can, not that I use an exorbitant amount, just like knowing I don't have to worry about it!

I have had unlimited data on my lines since I got my first razr.

Today, my foxfi/pdanet+ cant connect to Verizon server to verify subscription to activate foxfi hotspot.

    Any ideas?

This JUST started happening in the last half hour. I have rebooted, tried that 2 times. I can still connect via USB, but no dice on the hotspot.. Which sucks because MAN that was a REAL nice feature that finally got working.
