"BlackBerry Chief Predicts Demise of Tablets Within 5 Years
Are tablets the future of computing? Not according to BlackBerry chief Thorsten Heins.
In an interview with Bloomberg at the Milken Institute conference in Los Angeles this week,
Heins argued that within five years, "I don't think there'll be a reason to have a tablet anymore."

Is he crazy or does he own a Galaxy Note 2?

In my opinion, I agree. My laptop far outweighs the positives of owning a tablet, and I use my phone 90% of the time for searches/internet/and all other tablet related features. Maybe I'm just oldschool with the macbook, but I forsee any reason to trade it for a tablet of anykind.

Considering their PlayBook was a flop, I don't think he has a leg to stand on. IMO, tablets (just like PC's) are not going anywhere any time soon.

Edit: CrackBerry has some good info on it here:I highly doubt Thorsten Heins thinks the tablet market will die | CrackBerry.com

Five years is long time in the mobile electronics world. There will be many advances made by then. I see tablets as we know them today still being used, but most likely in the business world & for kids (toys).

Five years will bring mass production of flexible &/or resizeable screens, wearable devices & who knows what else. Samsung & LG are making a push for flexible & resizeable screens that will let us put a _____ (fill in the blank) size screen in our pockets. Wearable devices like Google Glass will eliminate the need for a pocket all together. In addition, there are advances in tech that will allow us to control our devices without touching them at all, so the touch screen may start to fade away just as physical keyboards have.

All I know is that mobile tech keeps getting more & more exciting each year, for me at least.

A phone the size of the iphone is too small for my routine use. A tablet in the 7" area works fine most of the time. I use my 17" Toshiba laptop an hour or so a week due to my Note 2 and 10.1 Note.
