[GUIDE]Freezing GS3 Bloat with Titanium Backup!
- As your already are well aware this phone comes with a substantial amount of bloat. Most the stuff I would never use but this will be different for everyone. In order to remove a lot of the bloat of your device you will need to have root access which can be found in another thread or over here....[ROOT] [RECOVERY] SCH-I535 (Verizon Galaxy S III) - Verizon Galaxy S3 Development - RootzWiki
Once you have root to your device you can start nuking your bloat. All you need is Titanium Backup installed. Once you have that installed go to the Backup/Restore tab and you can start freezing. Click on the app, and the popup will come up with the option to Freeze. That simple.
Whats the big deal with bloat? It takes up RAM... A LOT OF RAM. If you don't believe me, go to your task manager and view your RAM usage. Clear your RAM and look at the number. Once you look at that, look at my RAM numbers after a clear. They are better and they much better after it has been running for a while. After having the phone unplugged and running for a good 17 hours my RAM was only at .90 GB consumed.
Here is a running list of what I have frozen on my device and it is running fine.

Pretty long list isn't it? I am sure there are some more that I could freeze but these are the ones that I have been playing with for now and if I find that some cause issues or there are others that can be frozen I'll update.
I highly recommend that you be very careful with removing your bloat from your phone. Some of the apps that are frozen above you might use and freezing them will cause you to loose them for use. If you find that you lost a function or app that you like to use, just go and unfreeze it. All of the sync services that I have disabled are either Verizon or Samsung. I never disable anything that looks like a Google function to make sure I keep stability.
Do this at your own risk, I take no responsibility if you have problems with your device after freezing your applications. I recommend that you be very careful with freezing anything. If its in question, don't freeze it with a bunch of others. Freeze it by it self, and make sure that it doesn't cause device instability.
Any questions feel free to ask.07-14-2012 10:39 AMLike 22 - Thank you very much for the list. I just got my SGS3 yesterday and rooted today. One of the first things I always look for after rooting is a list such as this. I just so happen not to use anything on the list so glad to have them out of service so that it saves battery and memory. Again, many thanks for this list!07-22-2012 03:29 PMLike 0
- Just a heads up: if you use a Bluetooth headset in the car, don't disable s voice. You won't be able to voice dial. Mine tends to crash twice before it works anyway, but ymmv.

- Bloat is considered anything over the stock Google apps that comes with the phone, or at least in my opinion. The bloat is in there but I also froze other apps that Samsung threw on the device that I know I would never want/use. If you don't want to freeze those you don't have too, your choice. Everyone will use their phone differently and because of that people will want to get rid of or keep certain things.07-30-2012 06:57 AMLike 0

Freezing apps will basically stop it from running on your device, doesn't delete it off your phone but will basically force stop it and never allow it to run until you unfreeze it.07-31-2012 01:55 PMLike 0 - What is "bloat"? Any app you (the user) don't want on your phone.
What's bloat to me may be an essential app to you.
Personally, I'd like to see ROM developers (including VZW developers!) not include ANY app that's available on Google. I'll pick and chose my own, thanks!08-08-2012 08:06 PMLike 0 - Titanium Backup is worth the money, believe me. I have had it since my Thunderbolt and haven't had a complaint at all. Makes flashing ROMs a lot easier if market restore doesn't work.08-19-2012 06:09 AMLike 3

- Thanks for the list.
FWIW, for lists like these, I like to see a complete list of apps that are *safe* to freeze. Therefore, a longer list with apps that some people may want to leave active is fine. If a person wants to use an app, they are free to leave it unfrozen. The important thing is to have a list of apps that are know to not cause system instability when frozen.
Also, just fyi, you can freeze:

I remember seeing a cartoon a while back, some guy was buying a cup of coffee at for $5.50, a few gallons of gas for $20, and a few other small wasteful purchases for a few dollars but then later in the day he was sweating bullets over paying 99 cents for some app. I guess we are so used to free, a few bucks seems like a fortune.PsYcHoNeWb likes this.09-28-2012 10:35 PMLike 1 - As of right now, which I haven't changed anything in about a week I have several things frozen/ uninstalled and my phone works great. As the result, I can't access any application.
My home screen is totally black, but all of other functions (incoming call or msg, wifi setting, etc) are still working well.
How do I fix this up? I could't find the way to launch my Titanium Backup too.

Many thx before..11-08-2012 08:02 AMLike 0 - I got my galaxy note 2 a few days ago and found this list on here. I went though and disabled (not uninstalled) a lot of the bloatware apps and other apps listed here which I felt I would never use and did not need. For the first few days, when bringing my phone to campus, it would automatically connect to the att wifi signal in most buildings, which was nice cause then I wouldn't worry about using data. After disabling a bunch of apss, I went to campus, and it still automatically connected, but now it wants me to sign in and pay to use the att wifi. I know that the wifi is meant to be free for AT&T smartphone users, so I know that it wasn't a trial or anything.
One of the apps I disabled must have lost my phones ability to connect with att wifi and inform the network that I have an att smartphone. Any ideas as to what the app could be??
Thanks!!!02-08-2013 07:11 PMLike 0 - Awesome. Titanium backup really is worth the money. I just went through and froze all the unnecessary apps in my system. It seems to be running smoother already. Also, I use Nova launcher prime. I disabled touchwiz home in titanium, it seems to run even smoother. I figured the two launchers didn't need to be fighting eachother everytime I hit the home button. Or is this a bad idea?04-07-2013 09:13 PMLike 0
