Do you have to unroot to port a number over to your phone?

Just got the phone..Love it. Had to order as new then port my number as the 3rd party provider had issues.
I'm eager to root and customize. However, I'm not getting the old number ported until tomorrow.

Does anyone know if I have to unroot before the number is changed for the phone porting in another?

It would think not, but any voices of experience would be helpful here.
Thanks.

Off to look through the rooting methods thread again...

I don't think so... your number should be tied to your sim card. If you will be getting a different number they will have to give you a new sim card.

Thanks, but so you know I didn't have to get a new SIM card. I ported through their electronic method (ie, by phone routing sytem). It worked in minutes.
My only problem now is that I apparently still need something else for running a backup. I ran root, unlock, and installed ROM manager; however, it doesn't backup...
