Where you in some sort of tornado warning area? I have never seen 1 of those and I have been around a lot of bad weather.

Nvm, just realized its built into the messages app

Go to settings and you'll see you can receive presidential, extreme, severe, and amber alerts

I disabled severe and amber for now

We have had some pretty bad weather here in Ohio and iv never gotten one and all of mine are check marked.

Having said that, i do get alerts direct from the NWS, they had a beta opening for text alerts that are for emergency personal, skywarn spotters and such and I got in on that as a spotter.

Seems clear that only certain NWS warnings will register. It's part of CMAS.

Commercial Mobile Alert System - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yesterday alone, I had three warnings: Areal Flood Advisory, Severe Thunderstorm Warning and a Flash Flood Warning. Only the FFW triggered the CMAS alert.

Ok, thought you meant >settings> then locate it. You meant go into the messaging app then select settings. gotcha. thanks.

So if you disable the stock messaging app, will you still get these using a third party app like Handcent?

Just got one for a tornado watch until 9pm. Went right to the weather channel and weather bug apps and nothing there about tornadoes. Weather has been very calm since some rain earlier today. I think they sent it out for the wrong area.

Central NJ here. Got one this afternoon for a flood watch. I was on a conference call when it came in so I really didn't pay much attention to the alert...

No, they seem to still go to the stock messaging app as far as I can tell.

Just got another tornado alert! There's only a slight chance of thunderstorms in the area. Not something that I need to take immediate cover for. Just got an extension for the alert while typing this. I really think it's sending me alerts for the wrong area.

Just saw the same alert on tv in the office for my area so I guess it is working correctly.

No, but your phone will vibrate if you have it set to vibrate for an incoming call. It is the same level as your call setting.

System settings>>>Sound>>>Scroll to bottom>>>Emergency tone>>> Choose Off/Alert/Vibrate... I keep mine on off... Rather have silent alerts..
