I now have NFC, now what?

So I just moved from the Rezound to the GS3. I'm not sure what to do with the NFC chip. None of my friends are tech nerds and know what it is let alone have phones with it. I don't see Google Wallet in the market anytime soon for Verizon. What can I do to take advantage of NFC?

If you're rooted, you can flash google wallet. You can also set NFC tags for certain things. Such as you can put an NFC tag in your car to set a certain audio profile.

Will Google wallet ever be available to non rooted customers in the future? I used it on my nexus and it was groovy...free money from Google was also a plus.
