I have a rooted device and if I were to get a new micro SD card would I be able to safely transfer all its contents to the new card from my current one? And if so how

Easiest way is to plug your phone into a computer, and create a folder somewhere (say, DESKTOP) and give it a name like...ohhhh....SD Card. Open your phone, drag and drop all the files you wanna' keep into said folder. Unplug, power down, insert new SD Card. Reboot phone, let phone format new SD Card, then plug phone back into computer, open the phone, open the folder on the desktop you named SD Card, and drag and drop the files and folders onto the phone.

I'm not sure rooting has any serious effect on what happens to your sd card.

Whether rooted or not, I think you can pretty much access your sd card straight up
