S3 on Verizon: Network='Unknown' EVERYWHERE

First post so bear with me.

I've been struggling with cell signal/call quality for the past 3-4 weeks. It was originally thought that the build 3 software update to the S3 on Verizon may have caused the problems, but my device has been replaced with software build 1 and the problems don't appear to be resolved. It appears that I need to be standing next to a cell tower to get good reception or my calls drop, "choppy" conversations, etc. I've had the phone since Dec 2012 and never noticed these issues.

Many of my neighbors and friends have Verizon and I noticed one unique thing...on my S3, under Settings>About Phone>Status, the Network='Unknown'. It never changes no matter where I am. I've informally polled 20+ other Verizon users and their devices (2 other S3s) ALL show Network='Verizon Wireless'. My wife has a Droid4 and she's not having any problems and her Network='Verizon Wireless'. Verizon Tech Support has said this doesn't matter, but...

Any ideas or shared experiences are appreciated!
