App Backup?

I have read previous posts regarding backing up apps using MyBackupPro and such, but I would like to get more details regarding what ADDITIONAL functionality you get as compared to the app backup that is linked with your Gmail account.

My main goal is to back up apps and then settings (secondary).

Your Gmail account will only backup your purchase history of apps... no data or settings. Apps like MyBackup Pro and Titanium Backup will backup all your apps plus there settings/data. MyBackup comes with some extra features like backing up call logs, sms, mms messages, bookmarks home screen settings, etc.. And Titanium also has its advanced features as well.
