I just found this in the Galaxy Nexus forum (slap my face! :) ). I thought some of my ThunderBolt associates would like this. So... here it is...

http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...164-50-gb-free-storage-box-4.html#post1522171

Just download the .apk attachment at the bottom of the linked xda post after following the Android Central linked post above. I just did a right click, save taget as, and plopped it into my Dropbox folder. Then I installed it from there (ironic, I know!). :)

It says application has been "suspended by Google". Mightn't that mean it is a security risk?

I can't vouch for this method of getting the 50GB, but box.net (now box.com) did indeed give away that extra storage a few months ago. You had to sign into your box.net account from their official app on iOS and it would be increased. So it was all above board. I still have my 50GB working great from my Thunderbolt.

But while the method posted here may not be legit, box.net and their 50GB is. They are reputable and generous! Meanwhile, Microsoft gives you 25GB, so it's not unprecedented.

EDIT: here's an article about it: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_...b-of-free-cloud-storage-with-box.net-for-ios/

AFAIK, it's just that they will be discontinuing the "special offer" soon. I've heard Dec 31st. I dunno...

It works about like Dropbox. 'Cept more storage. Astro, for example, allows you to "send to" "Dropbox" and (now) "Box".

The only ulterior motive I'm aware of is their desire to "get their name out there" for advertising by using this "special".

Box.com really is. My guess is they want to get a foothold in the Dropbox market. This promotion of specifically for LG phone users, but the app that "redphx" over at XDA made allows your Thunderbolt to "spoof" an LG phone I guess, and register you for the free upgrade. They've already had similar promotions for iOS users.
[APP] Free 50GB Box.com - Upgrade to 50GB of Storage for FREE - xda-developers

The app that the dude created for getting 50GB with the Thunderbolt was suspended, not the box.com app itself. Why? Well probably because the app was being used to spoof the identity of another phone to take advantage of this promotion. As the author of app indicates, you can also change your password after you've unlocked the 50GB of storage (which I did).

Bottom line:

Box.com is legit
The free 50GB is legit (albeit for a different phone).
the app used to get it from the Thunderbolt may not be, but again, I just used a "throw away" password that isn't associated with anything else I have, so what do I have to lose? The only thing I've really given the app was my email address.

Not sure what Box would actually think of the app itself, but I seen they were encouraging people to just borrow an iPhone, LG, etc from a friend to log in to get the deal. It's a legit deal with a legit company.

I wish u all luck. I'm probably just chicken but I wouldn't personally take the chance. I feel like it is stealing from box.com under false pretenses.

Thank you for the wish for luck. I'm sitting in a casino at the moment. It appears to be working! Haha...

If you have a friend with an iPhone or iPad, just ask them if you can log into your box.net account from their device to get the 50GB, assuming the promotion is still active. Box even *suggests* this. How is that false pretenses?

I'm not trying to ruin it for you. Forget what I said. If the offer appeared in market for.my phone I would.grab it.
I have my own iPad and if it is in itunes I supose I could do it from there. I just don't get why a third party offers 50 free gb?
