google Music or thunderbolt and it needs 4g

So I use google very frequently and its pretty great especially compared to Itunes where you have to deal with all the syncing and stuff. Though I use google music when im out and in my area I only have 3g im in central Jersey ( im hoping 4g comes fast cause 3g is really getting on my nerves) So when I run it takes a long time to stream some songs. My question is, is this 3g fault or lack of 4g for fast enough speed to stream the song? Also I have a pair of Sol Republic earphones HD. I've been listening to some songs and the songs aren't that loud and I have to raiase the volume to maximum. Is this because of the thunderbolts soundcard or because of the earphones? I know that even when using amazon or the stock player it isn't a big difference. Is there a way to make the sound better?
