Comcast syncing issues

I have a Comcast email account on my Thunderbolt and its set to sync every 30 minutes. Most days it works wonderfully, however, at odd times on certain days, it will sync and will populate the account with 20-25 messages that I've either already viewed and/or deleted previously. Some of them are several days old too. Is there a way to correct this? I've tried messing with the sync properties, but I keep it on sync every 30 minutes. Should I change to sync on open? This defeats the purpose of knowing when an email is in the acccount. Any help appreciated.

i have no issues syncing with comcast email. Works like a charm.
