The OTA people downloaded was never to address the issue of having 2.XGB instead of the 8GB or so of internal storage. It even indicates in the document that the internal storage was not among the issues to be resolved.

There will likely be no change to your internal memory. In fact I can guarantee it.

See, most Android have a segregated OS partition on the internal memory, hiding the space the Android OS takes up. The Thunderbolt is lacking that. As a result, the 5+GB of storage that Android 2.2 with HTC Sense 2.0 takes is not going to magically vanish. If anything, the only change you might see it to advertisement slicks.
