REALLY wish the location thing would go away along with the 4Glte. Also wish we could switch the battery meter out for just the %. Having both is dumb.

It isn't exactly what you want, but you can have just the battery meter and not the percentage (Settings -> Batttery -> Uncheck the "Battery percentage" option). I just wish that "Battery meter" was also an option....

Right. There should be an option for either or...

That's about the same as the s4. Android phones are suppose be customizable, why can't we get rid of some of the clutter.

Just gonna throw this idea out there; have you tried rooting? A lot of custom ROMs have that option.

I know rooting fixes some of that, but really why should that require root, it should be a option to turn on or off.

My T-Mobile G2 doesn't display the mobile data status with WiFi on or have the E911 location icon either. Seems to be a Verizon thing. My droid charge showed that E911 logo fulltime too.

I agree that the notification bar is WAY too busy. It's annoying because precious space is taken up by these icons, and only fewer icons from actual notifications are able to be displayed.

Here's my list of suggestions (in case someone who can do anything about these happens to read this thread...hint hint). This is on a Verizon G2:

    1) Option to turn off the location access icon. This one is just annoying and for me completely useless. I always have location access turned on. So this icon doesn't tell me anything. And if I do decide to disable location access, a different icons is used instead! There is no way to get rid of this icon! AGH! Honestly, if I do decide to root my phone, this currently is at the top of the list of my reasons why
    2) Option to show just battery % without battery icon. I want to see the %, and the batter icon is completely useless and takes up space
    3) Option to turn off 4G/3G/1X icon when using WiFi (or when using WiFi, move 4G/3G/1X to the left upper corner of the signal bars). I'd prefer to be able to glance at the screen and see what I am using for data (and seeing both WiFi and 4G are annoying)
    4) Option to not display icons when in Silent or Vibrate mode. This one doesn't bother me as much as the other 3, but it still adds clutter. In the interests of customization, I could also see some people wanting an option to always display an icon for the mode (Silent, Vibrate, AND Sound).

GSam battery app has an option to overlay a % battery meter on top of the stock one. Saves a little room.

Sorry to say... The best way to customize the Status/Nav bars is to root. Install Xposed framework and G2 Xposed at a minimum. 4G icon is hidden when on WiFi.

I tried another app that does an overlay of the battery percentage over the battery icon. The problem is this causes Lux to not work correctly. Reading through the comments of Gsam, it also has the same issue. I chose to keep Lux over the battery percentage. I removed the percentage, and have a widget the displays the percentage on my home screen. Not ideal, but it saves an icon.

Also, in another thread someone had suggested to use Tasker to turn off mobile data when connected WiFi, and enable when disconnected front WiFi. I did the same thing but with Automate It, and it's great. I still have the stupid Location services icon and no battery percentage in the icons, but with these workarounds I find the system icons much more tolerable.

Add for rooting, I'm sure I'll do it at some point, but right now i didn't have time to deal with any potential issues. Of course, once i do root I'll probably wonder why i didn't sooner :-)
