Is the G2 camera as good as the one in my Nexus?

I've had my Nexus since it was released in December of 2011 and have loved the camera. I'm not too informed about the new phones. Does the G2 have any shutter lag? The lack of lag is a very important feature to me. My wifes phone just died so she will inherit my Nexus. Now I just have to make a decision on which phone I get. I like the battery size of the G2. Not so sure about the button placement. Are the back buttons the volume control? Thanks!

The back buttons are volume and power. You should be able to get used to them quickly. I'm happy with the camera, but not everyone is. Some users complain about blurry pics if their subjects are moving at all, like trying to capture pets or kids. I definitely recommend you play with one in store and see how the camera works for you.

The camera is definitely better on the G2. There is some shutter lag in certain situations.

The back buttons also launch the camera and quick note.
