TADA!!!! This has been driving me crazy since the day I got my GS5 last year. I've tried everything with no success ... until ... a few days ago Verizon made available the update from 4.4.4 to 5.0 Lollipop ... FIXED! Yeah. If you've got this problem, upgrade to Lollipop.

Got a solution (at least if you use google voicemail), so far worked, now I'm trying to spread the word..
Look at the instructions below, they will make sense.

    credit goes to JDRCH from another website;

I followed the instructions on this thread, and it didn't work for me.

First, my situation: GS5 verizon (obviously), 4.4.4.
I am NOT a verizon customer, therefore it didn't let me register the visual voicemail.
I'm a Google Voice user, therefore don't need any other voicemail.

    * go to: Setting > Application > Call
    * scroll half way down, look for Voice Mail Service and choose "Google Voice".
maybe the next step is not necessary, but I did it, easy.
    * Go to Google Voice (voice.google.com) on your computer browser (will not work on your cell), go to Setting, and do "Deactivate Google voicemail on this phone" and follow the instructions.

    That's it

I don't like visual voicemail. I prefer old school and like to listen to my voicemail. I called verizon and told them to block it from my phone. They did and removed the monthly charge.

The way I finally got it off was to go to my local Verizon store and have a employee update my account to remove the free trial and return me to the free version. The issue is Verizon trying to get you to purchase the trial app for a monthly service fee.

This was exactly what I was looking for .... BUT, I can't block it because there is some free trial on my account (just upgraded my phone and plan). I guess I'll keep an eye on it until the free trial is over; then block it.

I have an s6. I tried every suggestion here. I tried the suggestions on the Verizon support site. I called Verizon 3 times and got 3 fast talkers who insisted visual was the only option but that the basic was free so basically what was I whining about. But they would (begrudgingly) fix it so the popups would go away. They didnt. In fact they actually began appearing twice a day even when I had no phone calls!

So I called Verizon the 4th time. And what do you know, a person who said i can block that for you and in 30 seconds it was done. It is 100% ALL about the person who answers. Obviously 75% of their hires are either twits or they get paid extra for keeping you signed up but just keep calling until you get a person that will block it. Don't give up, keep calling. Its the only way.

This worked for me. Called Samsung Help at 888-987-4357 . They can connect you by Smart Tutor app to have remote access to your phone to turn notification of Visual Voice Mail off.

It is so ridiculous that Sprint has a stupid Visual Voicemail app and it will not allow you to disable it. I don't want it if I want to check my voicemail I will dial into the voicemail system using the number one key. I don't know why they would do something so annoying that you can't can't disable it and can't stop it I don't want it I use Google Voice. It is for this reason that I am just going to root my phone. If they don't want us to root our phone then they need to give us the control we need to stop these annoying things I want my device to be a useful tool not an annoying piece of junk because Sprint decided to put an app on there I can't get rid of nor use

I have gone into the application manager and I can force stop the app but it turns back on. I am not able to turn it off. I have been on hold with Verizon and they told me they were entering a code that would turn it off but that didn't work. I have been communicating on Twitter with @vzwsupport and they were unable to help. This visual voicemail keeps coming back. I don't want it. Attachment 123045

It's been almost 2.5 years since you posted this, but I was able to use this tip to block the Visual Voice Mail on my Droid Turbo 2 by searching for Block Services Verizon on Google, going to it, and blocking the free and Premium. Thank you for posting this.
