No Dialer Codes for Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4?

Anyone know if the dialer codes (such as #0*#) have been disabled in the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4? Nothing happens when I dial them.
From the home screen I select "Phone", then dial *#0*# and then nothing happens, whether or not I subsequently select the green phone call button.
I'm trying to diagnose whether my proximity sensor is clogged/obscured somehow.
What gives?

According to this [HOWTO] Enable Hidden Menus for Verizon Galaxy S4 - xda-developers Verizon disables them, and you have to be rooted to restore access.

EDIT: Reading through that post, he also mentions an app that can restore some of the functionality without rooting. Some other people's reply in that thread also have suggested fixes.

Thanks. Those apps for restoring access without rooting (Samsung Service Mode, or ServiceMode) don't work on the Galaxy S4 unfortunately.

But, for anyone struggling with their proximity sensor, I too can now confirm that it was a hardware issue. I went and bought a cannister of compressed gas, blew it in the grill above the Samsung logo, and also in the earphone jack. Issues resolved. My phone is only two weeks old, and hasn't been mishandled, so I was surprised that it was actually clogged.
