New line?

I have 5 lines with VZW, but now am only using 3 of them (family issues). My upgrades on them are August 2013. My question is if I cancel one of these lines, and pay the ETF, is there a waiting period to open a new line? These are dumbphone lines, and I want to get a new phone, and this seems a way to do it.

If you pay the ETF you can get a new phone I believe, but the cost of paying the etf and the cost of a subsidized phone may - buying a new phone outright.

Some years ago verizon let me drop a newer line because the other two were over contract. Maybe the date transfered to one of the others, I forget. Customer service attitudes have decayed since then, but really if you're eligible to drop a line, there's no financial difference to the carrier.
