How can I get out out of my current contract while avoiding ETF fees?

Are there any websites where you post what your current contract is and people can respond if they are interested in taking it over? I'm trying to get out of my contract with Verizon. I have 4 lines, 1400 minutes, unlimited text and data. Monthly bill is just too much, plus we never hit that 1400 mark. Any ideas?

Thanks :)

Have you tried calling them to see if there's a lower tier they can put you on that will cost less? Just because you're locked in to a 2 year contract doesn't mean you can't change how many minutes or how much data you get.

You may be able to sell it on eBay. The person who buys it would use AOL (assumption of liability) and take over the lines. Don't think you'd keep your number as the new person would get it... But having unlimited data would fetch you a pretty penny for 4 lines of it.

I'm in a grandfathered contract. I still have unlimited data. I think all current plans now have unlimited minutes and text. I think the only way to save money is to get rid of my unlimited data and go down a tier. But if I do that I dont know if I should just switch carriers instead?

How much could I fetch for a 4 line, 1400 min, unlimited data plan (only 2 phones have unlimited data). The other 2 phones I gave to my parents as kind of dummy lines so I was able to upgrade without losing my unlimited data. I wouldnt even know how much to ask on ebay.

I think you should be able to go down to the legacy 550 min plan? Probably will save you at least $30, if not more.

Wouldn't that void my unlimited data and thus I would need to buy a new data package for my 2 smartphones? I use only about maybe 2-3gb on my phone each month. I hit 6gb every once in a while. My gf's smartphone uses maybe 1gb and thats pushing it. The other 2 phones are just basic with no data except unlimited texts and uses the 1400mins.

You can downgrade to the 700 minute plan for sure. The 550 minute plan is a legacy plan so ymmv. Changing voice or text doesn't affect unlimited data.

I'm waiting on the line with them now, 30 minute wait like always lol. So, I just tell them I want to drop my minutes down to 700 for all the phones but keep everything the same? My unlimited and everything else will not change? Any idea what the plan is called or how much I will save?

Off topic, is VZW still offering a deal to get people off unlimited? $30/m for 10gb or something?

Edit: 4 phones total have averaged around 200-300 minutes a month. Once we all went over 700.

I just changed it from 1400 to 700 min and he said I'll save around $20 or so. I'm going from $191 a month (roughly) to $171.

Is this the best deal I can get? I was thinking of getting rid of the unlimited data or is that a bad idea? What are the current prices for the data tier plans? And someone on here mentioned something about Verizon giving them a decent deal for opting out of unlimited data, $20-$30 for 10gb?

Here are the charges from my most recent bill and a few months before. The usage I posted was from the "Current Usage" on my bill. I didn't include the "Unbilled Usage from Previous Months". If I added the Unbilled Usage, it would of added another GB to the Current Usage. A couple months that I didnt list, I managed to hit 6GB, 7, 8 and I think that max I've hit was 16GB. I've kept unlimited data basically for emergencies. Example, we go on a road trip and he wants to video from Plex or something, that'll chew up data like hell or I'm working out and I use my iPhone for music, I'll rake up data. For a while now I use WiFi a lot, but I'm just waiting for that one time that'll I wished I'd unl data.

No this will not void your unlimited data. The plan is called the Nationwide Loyalty Share 550. I personally dropped down to this voice plan on my account with 2 unlimited data lines last year.

Also if you feel like you'll be going over 550 or 700 min, you can upgrade to the next tier anytime during your billing cycle on myverizon or by calling in. The next billing cycle you can go back but for the 550 plan you'll have to call in and have a CSR do it.

*you didn't have to call in and wait for 30 min - could've simply changed to the 700 min plan online :)

ETA: Have you worked out how much 2 smartphones and 2 basic lines would cost on the share plans?

$80 for 2 smartphone line access
$60 for 2 basic line access

Plus your data package

$50 for 2GB is usually enough

Total would be $190 before taxes/fees but unlimited minutes and texting.

I hope this made sense!

People would be $1000 for a plan like mine? I wouldn't even know where to start or how much to ask? So I wouldn't have to pay any ETFs for any of the 4 lines and then someone would pay me to transfer my account over into there name to take over. Aren't there risks?

I'd love to stick with VZW but the price is killing me, moneys tight at the moment. I did just save around $20 a month buy switching to 700 minutes. So now I have 4 lines (2 smartphones & 2 basic phones), sharing 700 minutes, unlimited text, but now F&F are now gone.

My bill the last 2 months since adding those 2 basic lines was $191.78. Dropping me to 700 minutes instead of 1400 saved me around $20 the rep said down to $171.

I don't know if I should stick with what I got, the rep said It's the best I can get. The rep told me that $30 now only gets your 3gb If I remember correclty. I pay $29.99 for unlimited data at the moment. I don't know what do to day...

700 minutes, unl text and 8gb of data for the two smartphones to share would be prefect. The other 2 lines are fine as they are just used for calls and texts, no data needed.

No I understand (pretty well), I just dropped down fro 1400 to 700 and I feel that fines, only downside is that I lost that Friends & Family program. Do you happened to the know the prices for data plans? I have unlimited data for $30, is that something I should keep as long as possible. I just went from $190 to $170 but dropping form 1400 to 700 min, I'm just looking to make my bill even lower.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it but I think if you 'assign' ie. sell your whole plan to someone else, they are not entitled to the grandfather clause of Unlimited Data.

FWIW, I tried to hold on to it but ended up dropping it and I never regretted it. Unlike this damn HTC One on VZW. It's like a small prison with aluminum walls instead of bars.

For your needs probably not. If you move to more everything on 10gb on contract then you are looking at 2x$40+2x$30+$100=$260

Moving to the unsubsidized plan you are looking at 4x$15 + $100 = $160. Keep in mind that even though you are saving money per month on the plsn, that you would have to pay full retail for phones. So you would have to pay $650 for the iPhone 5s instead of $200 subsidized (currently $100 on sale). Currently you can get smartphones on all 4 lines of service, and can sell the extra phones that you don't use.

There is a 6gb/$30 plan that Verizon may allow you move to from unlimited data. But I don't really see a reason to do so at this time since there are loopholes to keep unlimited when upgrading.

You can move to the 550 minute loyalty plan to save an additional $10. You can drop unlimited text which is an additional $30 savings (assuming unlimited text on all lines). Smartphone lines can use Google Voice to text for free, but from a different number.
