Yep in a sense. They'd need a phone that supports LTE so they can use VoLTE... So if it was CDMA only then yes but if you can get LTE and you have VoLTE you'll be fine.

CDMA is old technology and the cost for maintain them comes to a point where it's not worth it. I'd rather see them spend money on upgrading LTE towers.

And 3 years is a good enough time to upgrade to a newer phone. My mother uses a CDMA flip phone and to buy the phone out right, it cost me $80 of I could of used her upgrade and got it for $0.01. But I used her upgrade for my phone.

Verizon's CDMA still has the best signal penetration though....

Are we talking 1xRTT, 1xEVDO, or both? Just last year there was talk of Verizon keeping CDMA up for IoT devices.
