Make your G-tablet better.

Here are few tips to make your gtab perform better:
1. TnTlite vs Vegan: Vegan is better with USB mouse, keyboard support, home screen lock, Vegan wallpaper makes the status bar smaller but camera works better since it is closer to the factory firmware. Vegan has better speaker volume to me.
2. Get rid off all the phone or extra system apps that you will never use but making loading slower and taking up RAM. Install Uninstaller for Root app should give you the ability to uninstall all the talk, car app, or any system app you don't want.
3. Install Titanium backup to fix the Market. After you follow the instruction and delete the Wipe Date under Google Services Framework, exit without doing anything else, DO NOT open Market. Power down by pressing the power butter for 3 seconds to open the power menu and choose Power off. After that turn on the tablet and open the Market, it should fix the Market then.
4. Open Titanium, go to backup/restore tab, and backup all the apps, schedule to backup all system apps also. Make sure every app has a backup. If you don't wipe out you SD card, backups will save you time when you reinstall the apps, just hit restore and all data will be re-installed for you. You might need the Titanium Pro for better speed.
4. Install Advanced task killer and use it often manually when the tablet slows down to kill running apps and free memory.
5. Install some Droid overlock app to make sure your tab is running at 1000 or more MHz (1GHz) even at minimum unless you want to save battery.
6. VNC viewer is a good app for viewing your desktop computer.
7. Apps not found in Market can be found on Applanet (make sure to download the latest version 2.8.0.1 now and let it install new version whenever it asks you), or go to 4shared.com to search.
8. Viewsonic.com/gtablet/favorite.html has some good links.
9. Keep Vegan Rom and supplement zips or TnTlite Rom and supplement zips and the factory Rom backup zips on your SD card. When you have error for example after you uninstall a system app by mistake, just flash it again to reinstall the system apps needed. Unless you run the over the air update by Viewsonic, flashing custom Rom will not uninstall your own apps.
10. Latest Yahoo Messenger with plug-in will do video chat. Works better in TnTlite than Vegan for me. You can only find the latest Yahoo Messenger apps after you fix the Market. If you can find it without fixing the Market, do it.
11. Document to go app can read Microsoft documents.
12. Adult Movies HD is for porn movies only.
13. Fulltiltpoker Rush is only for cash Rush game, not tournament games.
14 Playon will allow you to watch Netflix or access you computer files. Requires you to install Playon software on your computer. You can choose to pay 1 time fee for the application to get the service for life.
15. Live wallpaper looks great on the tablet.
16. Buy a book stand like Bookgem book holder or something similar so you have the option to view the tab at different angles lying down on bed. Avoid any bulky stand or stand with keyboard and so forth. You don't want to add weight to the heavy tablet. Bookgen also clamps on the tablet so it doesn't slide off each other.
17. Buy SD card class 4 or best class 6 for better transfer rate.
18. If you leave the tablet for a long time, power it down to save battery. Hold power button and count 1,2,3 then release. The power menu will appear.
19. Save all your zip files on your SD card because you can install or flash them from the clockworkmod menu if you have it installed. Activate by turning the tablet off then hold both the +volume and power button together untill you see the yellow Android logo appear.
20. Turn on the click sound for keyboad and screen change because you will feel that the tablet is more responsive. If you don't hear any sound, it means that you did not touch it correctly.

22. Another note: the screen is more responsive if it has you body oil all over it. So the more you use the screen, the faster the tablet. Cleaning the screen really well will help with the look but not with the performance.

For those who get frustrated with the touch buttons on the edge of the tablet:

1. There are the same icons with the same functions on the status bar. Used them at night so you don't have to look for the touch buttons in the dark.
2. If you want to use them, put some white tape along the edge and draw some black dots to indicate the posistions of the buttons. The bright sreen should help u see the dots. If you can find some self-illuminated tape, it would be better.
3. Or return the tablet and send an email to viewsonic to tell them why you return it.

This seems very biased towards Vegan. All the while each ROM has its pros and cons. You need to try a couple of them to get a feel for the difference's and decide which one fits you, (such as Kevin10 has done).

I preference TnTLite 5.0.1 over to Vegan 5.1.1.

As for Vegan being closer to factory firmware I am calling BS on that. Why do you think they call it TnTLite? Because it's 95% the original firmware, whereas Vegan is deffinately not.

There is also a way to fix the market without installing Titanium Backup. Look for it on XDA, but the jist of it is load market, close it, stop the market app, clear cache, stop the google framework app, and clear data. Open the market and get an error. Reboot and it will work just fine with almost a full market.

I don't know about the body oil making the screen more responsive, I shower daily and wash my hands, so I'm not extremely greasy. Some people say rain-x will keep the smudges at bay though.

Don't put tape on your tablet, there is an LED fix you can do to put LED's next to the buttons under the screen and it works like a charm. If you own a souldering iron you should have no problem with this.

If when attemping following some of the OPs tips your tablet doesn't come back up or just doesn't seem to be working correctly, head on over to XDA and find the thread regarding NVflash. It will bring your seemingly bricked tablet back to life less than 5 minutes.

Thanks for your opinion, there was some missing typing. I meant TnTlite was closer to the factory fw therefore the camera works better (image is sharper) than Vegan. If you read my other post, I always said Yahoo Messenger video works better with TnTlite.

I personally like TnTlite better than Vegan except couple of things which they just fixed with TnTlite version 5.0.1 for example there was no homescreen lock on TnTlite version 4.xx and Vegan wallpaper makes the status bar skinnier which is better for me. I am not here to tell people which ROM they should use.

About the market, it does not matter how you fix it because I was just getting the point that you need to fix the market in order to find the lastest version of Yahoo Messenger which was my own experience. If you can download it from somewhere else, it is fine too but you need the Market to work to update the plug-in inside the Yahoo messenger app. I mentioned it because a lot of people was asking about the video chat.

The body oil was a sense of humor unless someone cannot take it. My point was that, my tab screen is more and more responsive everyday compared to when I just opened it from the box. One reason is the new ROM, the other reason, I thought it was my body oil, but it was just me....

The LED idea is very interesting, could you please elaborate it a little bit more? Thanks!
