Why when I run Speedtest (wifi) on my Optimus V I get about 9mbps down but my iPod touch 4 gets about 18mbps down? (computers in my house get 20mbps).

Is the wifi radio in the OV just inferior in some way?

That explains it then. I figured the N vs G thing was the only difference. I have the basic FIOS 15/5 that actually speedtests at 20/6. My iPod touch can just about use all of it. Optimus not so much. No biggie, was just curious why. Thanks everyone.

G can handle 20mbps+ (I get 22mbps on G computers). I'd say it's more to do with the Optimus V being less powerful than the iPod touch 4G, than an N vs. G thing.

Ever tried different clock speeds (e.g. 480Mhz vs. 806Mhz) to see if it affects your speeds?

That makes sense too. I'm looking forward to the day when VM gets an Android that can truly rival the performance and feature-set of the iPod/iPhone 4, without too many quirks or issues. I'd love to replace my iPod and OV with one device but VM just isn't there yet.
