I have been researching many places to find out how to mirror the Gear VR onto a display with an HDMI connection. I have found a solution, but it is not completely without lag. I have not been able to find a 100% sure solution for no lag or audio stutter.

How to mirror with Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter v2 (This should work with almost any mirror device ex..Chromecast, Roku):

1. Activate "Developer Mode." (Navigate to Settings -> scroll all the way right to System ->About Device -> tap Build Number until it says Developer Mode turned on -> hit back button)
2. Open Developer Options.
3. Scroll down to the "Drawing" category.
4. Tap "Simulate secondary displays"
5. Choose either 720p x 480p mdpi (secure) or 480p.
6. Put the device into the Gear VR and enjoy. (Don't worry about the little window that shows up on the screen)

In simple testing with some games and videos. I have had better frame rates with 480p selection.

Remember once you finish with the Gear VR, just go back into Developer Options and change the display setting back to "None" and your phone will act as if nothing happened.

Happy testing and let me know if you find a better solution in the future!
