Default Way to forward-/backspace without deleting

Since I can't find an answer anywhere I'm guessing I can't get there from here.

Just wondering if there's any way when typing to forward or backspace without tapping the screen fifty-eleven times or deleting spaces to position the cursor exactly where I want it?

I've had Type 1 Diabetes for 40 years and have lost a lot of the feeling in my fingers so positioning the cursor is sometimes a major PITA.

Welcome to Android Central! The stock Google Keyboard doesn't have directional keys--you have to tap the screen to relocate the cursor. Some 3rd party keyboards like SwiftKey have optional directional keys.

IN CASE YOU'RE WONDERING, I'll be on vacation from 7/27 to 8/13, with only intermittent web access. So if you don't see me around much, don't worry, I didn't defect to another site or anything like that.
