Speech To Text: How to turn off beep at beginning and end of android speech recognition?

when I start speech recognition, it emits a loud "beep" to inform me that it is ready. Are there any settings anywhere where I can turn this off? the only strategy I currently have is to mute my phone (not good).

even - can I tie the volume of the beep to the main/system volume on my phone? currently, it is always full volume, even if my phone is only 1 bar above silent.

bump - I can't find anything that solves this anywhere. I can't imagine that other people haven't complained and gotten this fixed/optioned by now. But I can't figure it out. Help!
