I connected my Nexus 5 phone to my laptop using the USB, but when i open My Computer, it shows the file is empty. What do I do?

I connected my Nexus 5 phone to my laptop using the USB, but when i open My Computer, it shows the file is empty. What do I do?

Well, remove the USB from your Laptop, Switch your device off and then again power it on, try connecting it again over to your Laptop and when you are connecting you will get a option over you smartphone i.e connect it as MTP or as an camera select it as camera and then check if all the files are visible or not !! I am sure if all the drivers are installed then you can view the files stored over your device.
