gmail and google plus problems

every now and then google+ keeps "turning off" or it stops syncing. i notice this when my wifi icon turns grey. it resolves itself in a few hours. but it's annoying in that gmail stops syncing and doesn't alert me of new emails. i always have to delete the g+ and gmail apps, because deleting the app data isn't enough. is this a google server problem, or is it me?
