Auto-Rotation Resets to "on" by itself

[AC Question]

This is the reverse of the "failure to rotate" problem. In Display setting on my Samsung SCH-1200 I usually uncheck the A-R box. Then, sometime in the next day or two rotation starts to happen without anybody touching settings, the box has rechecked itself. Any ideas.

(Similar problem with brightness, I like it bright but display resets to auto all by itself. No big deal unless I'm out in the sun and can't see the screen well enough to reset the brightness level.)

Perhaps try Settings, Apps, All, scroll to Settings, and clear cache.
If no go perhaps try a Cache Partition wipe in Recovery Mode.

Also make sure you don't have any apps changing the a/r or brightness. (Tasker can do both, some other apps may do one or the other.)
