Galaxy S3 won't let me override auto correct.

I am a new user of Galaxy S3 and like it a lot...BUT....in text messaging etc when I type DeFuniak Springs (which is a city), it insists on changing it to DeNial. I go back and retype it and it re-corrects. Is there a way to override a word? I like the auto suggest, but this is crazy. Weedeater, came out Edgewater...and I cannot change it.

Is there a setting? Thanks, Claudia

If the GS3 is like the GS5, there will be a black bar above the keyboard with suggestions
On the right side there should be a check mark where you can override auto correct
