Replacement for built-in Contacts app?

I'm using an Android 4.1.2 cell phone since 1 & a half year but suddenly a month ago my dialer stopped working. Whenever I try to open it the screen shows "Unfortunately Contacts has stopped". I've tried a few things like changing date & time format, clearing cache, resetting app preferences. Its always a temporary solution and the people from the Customer care centre suck big time! I've been using Google's Contacts+ & Dialer+ app but I can't disable my in-built Contacts app, otherwise I won't be able to add new contacts on my phone. So I wanted to know if there is another contacts app which can completely replace the in-built app?

There are no other ways, other than the ones you have described. Factory Reset my friend! Make sure everything is backed up.
