Why will my phone power on but not go to the home screen?

I have a samsung sch-s738c, it was working fine earlier today but then I noticed the screen was frozen. I had to remove the battery for the phone to turn off. When I turn it back on the samsung logo pops up, then nothing but a blank screen. j

Welcome to Android Central! Does that keep happening if you try to power on? Can you tell if the phone is actually on, but the screen is just blank? Or does the phone seem to shut off completely each time? The first thing I'd try is a new battery.
