Why does my mobile phone use more batter when it is in standby and idle mode?

Hi, Iam using Moto g 2nd generation. My mobile sometimes seems to be consuming more battery when mobile standby and idle. This doesn't happen regularly. Can any one help me out in fixing the issue??

Try checking your battery stats. And the moto g is running a Qualcomm snapdragon processor is I am correct. Get the app snapdragon battery guru

The weaker the mobile signal, the more battery standby consumes. (Standby doesn't mean that it;'s off, it means that you aren't on a call. The phone still periodically talks to the tower to let the system know which tower you can be reached on.) I agree with Snapdragon™ BatteryGuru - it does seem to save a little battery once it's gathered some stats (which takes a few days of use).

Thanks.. I am already using the snapdragon battery guru since last 20 days. But I don't find any big difference with that app.
