How do i connect my phone as a media device?

My phone wont connect to my computer, and it wont even show as charging when i do plug in the USB. How do i fix it?

Charging and media are totally separate things. Plug something else into that USB connector on the computer to make sure that the USB connector is good. If that device charges, plug the small (device) end into your phone. If it doesn't indicate that it's charging, it's probably a bad charging port or charging port board in the phone. That would mean a trip to a repair shop.

If the other device doesn't charge either, find some device that charges with some cord (with a microUSB connector on the device end) that charges in some computer. Plug your phone into that computer. If it still doesn't charge, the problem is in the phone.

As far as the phone connecting to the computer, have you installed any necessary driver in the computer? (Tell us the phone and we'll tell you where to get the driver.) And are you using the cable that came with the phone (some cables are for charging only, they have no data wires in them - for devices that use the USB port only for charging. Copper is expensive.)
