google calendar repeating events can't be created

UPDATE 2: 20150130
I've tried all the options below -- I do know how to create repeating events. I have same results as before with one update. The repeating events that I created the first week of January for January 17th finally showed up, but i have the same problem as before if i try creating a new repeating event for now or the future -- disappears when the repeating option is set. It shows up if there is no recurrence noted, but the minute you create a repeating event or edit an existing event to be repeating, it disappears -- may to show up some time later -- who knows. Enough people below have had the same symptoms that tells me that it's just not me but something weird going on somewhere -- maybe in the synch or some internal filter -- but can't seem to nail it down.
I just created another repeating event and it doesn't show up on my phone, but if i go to my wife's phone which is synched to the shared google calendar i'm creating the event im, i can see it on her phone -- just not mine -- aarrrgh. so it's syching to google calendar on the google servers, but i just can't see it on my phone. what gives????!!!!

UPDATE 1: I am creating this event on the phone -- what is weird is that the repeating events do show up on google calendar on the web-- i have several now on the web calendar as i tried creating several test version but all failed to show up on the phone but do show up on the web. Thus synching is working as it got from my phone to the google calendar
I can see other events in the same google calendar on the phone and can create and view a single event but not a repeating event.

so repeating events can be created but can't see them in the google android calendar or any other calendar on the phone. weird weird weird.

ORIGINAL POST:
Using Nexus 6 with 5.0 lollipop using latest version of google calendar

Am trying the following"

Create a weekly repeating event starting january 17, 2015 from 12:00pm to 1:30pm ending march 21.

When i create this event with repeating option , it doesn't show up in the calendar no matter how many times i try it -doesn't show up, i can use repeat daily, weekly, monthly, forever or until a certain date or for a given number of events -- doesn't create the event.

Now if i can create a single event just for january 17, 2015 from 12:300pm to 1:30pm. that doesn't repeat. if you create that single event -- it shows up on the calendar immediately. But then edit the event and make it a repeating event. The event will disappear.

i have rebooted the phone, and haved tried creating using other calendar apps like business calendar and digical -- but same problem -- repeating events just disappear.

Thoughts? Is it just me?

Re: google calendar repeating events can't be created

It could be something you're missing, or it may be a fault with the app on the Nexus.
I put your dates in on the app and it showed on my phone (Samsung) straight away. There have been complaints about the app. It won't sync more than a year ahead if I remember.

ADDED : I am not on 5.0.

Re: google calendar repeating events can't be created

thanks for the the thoughtful and thorough reply.
I think it's something with lollipop OS and the new calendar material design app. which BTW is gorgeous and almost makes me give up the other calendar apps i've used.
Never had this problem on my nexus 4 phone and jellybean OS. The fact android calendar synchs with web calendar and the web calendar has all the invisible entires tells me it's something about the 5.0 calendar engiine. Note that if i add the repeating item using a third party calendar app it has the same problem -- they all read/write from the google android calendar engine so something weird is going on there unless i'm missing something basic or something really really deep.

Thanks again for replying.
Maybe someone with 5.0 will chime in and see if they can replicate the problem.
dunno -- maybe it's the nexus phone itself.

I get this problem also. Repeating events disappearing on creation and an event disappears when changed to be a repeating event.

Re: google calendar repeating events can't be created

I was going to search the Android 5.0 Lollipop and Nexus 6 forums last night UK time.
Try the Google Calendar Play Store reviews under your device only.

ADDED: Just to be clear, the Google calendar on the app is now just called Events (annoyingly). Any other calendars on the app may start with your Gmail name if you use that for other calendar accounts.
Full colour check box is on, box with white centre is off.

Re: google calendar repeating events can't be created

I just tried it on my Nexus 4 running Lollipop 5.0.1 and it is displaying properly as a repeating event from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM every week starting 1/17/15 and ending 3/21/15. It should look like this when opened:

f07fed5bdda35424a59fb722ca030454.jpg

You probably have this down but in case anyone needs it:

When creating the event as described in Calendar app select start and end time on same day (1/17) > tap More Options > Repeat > Custom > Tap Weekly > change Forever to Until a Date > Select date > Done.

thanks for the replies -- i just updated my original post with new information.
Hi. I would paste your update on a new post below this.

Or you are welcome to start a new thread in this forum.

I had just a quick glance, but I wonder if two accounts syncing to one calendar is the common denominator, even though it's designed for that.

I have this exact same problem and it's pissing me off. Started several weeks ago.

Same deal. I create repeating events (typically in web browser on my computer) and they do not show up on my phone. If a single event in that chain is altered to be different, it will show up on my phone, but none of the others will. All other non repeating events show up just fine.

Doesn't matter what calendar app I'm using, it'll be the same thing (although I think the other calendar apps sync off of the google calendar app? I can't even get my calendar to show up in business calendar unless I have google calendar installed). Stupid thing is that it syncs just fine to my gf's phone. She can see my calendar just fine on her phone, I can't see my own calendar properly on my own phone.

My phone: Sony Xperia TX running 4.3
Her phone: Sony Xperia Z3 Compact running latest stock android for her phone

For the record, yes, I have manually synced, I have rebooted phone, I have uninstalled and reinstalled apps, I have removed and re-added my account, I have cleared the cache from calendar apps. No dice.

I found this:
(Ok, there was going to be a link to a thread on the google products forum but I guess I'm not allowed to post links)

Notably this post:
"I have found that editing one of the recurring events on the desktop and then selecting the option to change all FOLLOWING events makes those events come back on mobile. Choosing to modify ALL events in the series didn't work. So go back a little and do that to make some of them return.

Still, we shouldn't have to do this kind thing to make Google's own calendar work correctly with Google's calendar app. Cmon Google!"

I did try fiddling around with changing all events in a series and changing following events in a series and when I went back to check, every repeating event dating back to beginning of December showed up again in my phone. I can't isolate which one I did that worked out for me, but give it all a shot. It might work temporarily at least.

Re: google calendar repeating events can't be created

A possible workaround? I'm using Android 4.4.2 and noticed a similar problem a few weeks ago. Repeat events could be created on my laptop but when created on the phone, they showed up as a one-time event whenever I tried to use "Never" as the end date. I've noticed that if I select a date certain as the end date, the problem is resolved. The event appears on my Android calendar and syncs perfectly on my other computers.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the tips. I was facing exactly the same problem of jr2002 at the 1st post here.
I have a lot of recurring events on my google calendar.
I have the Moto G 2013 and the problems started when I upgrade from KK to Lollipop, 2 weeks ago.
I tried all the tips you said, but none worked with me.
Today I think fix the problem working on my notebook (web google calendar). I deleted one of my recurring events (all the events) and doing again the same event with the repeating events. All the other events reappeared like magic.
Let see how many time will that last.
Regards
Kasdre

Welcome to Android Central - kasdre and supercoop.

You both may have found an error in the programming, who knows (and what do I know). Let's hope doing that will bypass the problem every time.

Hello
I have this same exact problem too. On my Samsung Galaxy Mega I9205 running custom rom lollipop dirty unicorns. Happens whatever calendar app I use. Doesn't seem to be neither OS (not sure) nor app dependant then.
Should then be a Google account problem as all these events are stored in our Google account.
Anybody nows how to warn /inform Google?
Thanks for reading this

Hello. I have a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact which has the same problem. I also have a Sony Xperia Z Ultra which doesn't. I only found out that it worked on the Ultra last night after more experimentation. Like you, this is driving me nuts since I put concerts etc. as recurring annual events. Anyway, the only difference there seemed to be between the two was that on the Compact I had installed Google Calendar and on the Ultra I hadn't. So, I uninstalled Google calendar on the Compact, Rebooted and tried again. IT WORKED LAST NIGHT - BUT IT DOESN'T THIS MORNING !!!!!! So, I added an entry on my Ultra and an entry on my Z3C, synced and exported the Calendar via the web. Here are the entries below. Note the RRULE bit. This is different on the Z3C and I can only assume this is somehow confusing the calendar software. Anyway, will do some more work and see if I can get the damn thing to work!!!!!

Update 1: I removed one of the events that actually worked last night - and then all of the others I added today (that I couldn't see) suddenly appeared. Weird. I am at a loss to explain it but will continue experimenting over next few days.

hello, I noticed if do not delete the recurring events, the problem doesn't happens. You only will give the OK for your commitment, silencing the alarm and does not delete the recurring event. The hassle is that your past commitments will pollute your calendar. Regards

Hi folks,
exact same problem here on a Galaxy S4 Mini with 4.4.2. No luck finding a solution so far, but after weeks of research on various forums, I've found 2 things:

First: the bug has been known for years as some forum threads date back to 2010!!! So I guess we won't get a solution by next week I'm afraid. This means someone performs some invisible updates (my guess is Google people) which interfere with some very specific apps on very specific phones (many people have indicated having the glitch on one phone but not on another of the exact same model). Considering how long people have had the issue and the multitude of phones, brands, Android versions, apps and configurations, I doubt the glitch will ever be solved on a major scale. That or some poltergeists have a weird sense of humour...

Second: the issue is probably related to how the apps manage Google calendar syncing on various systems. Indeed, I've discovered that the Sunrise calendar app works fine on my S4 and shows all recurring events :D , while no other calendar app has been able to show these for the past couple of months, now. I haven't tried them all, but I've tried quite a few and other people have as well. So far, it's the only app that seems to work. I've used it for about a month and it still works OK...
Not a revolutionary app, but at least, I get to access/modify all my google calendar events on my mobile which is a relief. As a last resort, give it a try. No widget, though, so this is as good as it gets.
I'm not a specialist enough to dig into why this particular app works and not the others but I certainly won't update it ever, for fear that it should start bugging like the other calendar apps. If some of you are Android-learned, maybe you'll have a clue as to why this one but not the others.
I sure hope one day, some random update solves the problem miraculously. Wishful thinking... :-\
Cheers,
Fred
