Will a USA purchased Sumgsung S5 work with a sim card purchaed in New Zealand?

Thinking of going to NZ this year and would like to use my S5 for navigation and the like. I am planning on changing out to a NZ purchased SIM card. Will the functionality of the phone and apps work properly.. specifically Google Maps and Map Quest?

Is it unlocked or did you purchase it from AT&T or T-Mobile? If it is unlocked, then double check the bands of the S5 if it supports the carriers in NZ.
