Why does WiFi on during sleep cause connectivity problems?

A

AC Question

Hi. I have got a problem with my 5.0.1 Nexus 7 2013 wifi - when I have "wifi on during sleep" switched on, the battery life suffers greatly, as my tablet stays in sleep most of the time. When I switch it off, battery life is great but when waking up the tablet takes forever to connect to my home wifi. It changes from "saved" to "connecting" to "connected" for a few miliseconds and back to "saved" to restart the cycle. After a couple of minutes (sometimes shorter when I "help" it by clicking my wifi and "connect" a several times) it connects and everything works well. My phone and laptop never had issues connecting or using my home wifi, so I believe it's something with the tablet. Any ideas?

It may have a bad wifi antenna, causing it to keep searching for a wifi signal, thus draining the battery. It may be a weakness of the design, or a fault with your particular specimen, so you might want to have it tested, or do that yourself if you know how.
