Samsung Galaxy s5 won't power off

When I press and hold the power button on my Samsung galaxy s5 it is supposed to bring up the power down menu. Instead it just closes the screen. I went to the Sprint store and they suggested I update the operating system, which I did. The problem persists. If I pull the battery and restart, the power button will work for a while, but goes right back to closing the screen instead of showing the shut down menu.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to Android Central! It might be a faulty Power button. How new is the phone? If it's pretty new, bring it back to the store and show them the problem. Make sure they know the phone is completely up to date. Ask for a replacement. If they don't give you one because it's been too long, then contact Samsung for warranty repair.
