My Nexus 5 died last night and now the screen remains black, can I fix this?

my nexus 5 died last night and now the screen remains black

i've tried holding volume up and down and power at same time and even left it on charge this entire day and still nothing has happened

Battery failure, perhaps? But it could be some other kind of failure.
