Why are my pictures "expiring"?

My phone randomly decided to start putting an expiration date on incoming photo messages I have received. For example, a picture I received today said it will expire April 4th. Does anyone know why it is doing this and how can I change this setting? Thank you!

Welcome to Android Central! I think that only happens if you don't have your mobile data turned on. Since MMS messages are sent over mobile data, you won't be able to see it immediately if your mobile data isn't on. If you turn it on and tap the message, it will then download the message along with the photo. Once it's downloaded, it will stay in your message thread. However, if you don't turn on mobile data and download it, the message will expire.
