Why is my tablet losing power rapidly?

my tab is losing battery power

While plugged in to charge. The tab is recognising that its been put on charge showing the icon in the battery but it doesn't actually charge. Infact its losing power rapidly. Turned it off to charge it (read that might help) and it lost 20% in 2 hours. I have recently delt with the red x problem With a new charger. They both say they are charging but not actually charging. Help me please, I dont even know where to start... it says its charging!

Welcome to Androud Central.

Have you checked that the USB lead and USB port are clean and undamaged?
Also, are you sure that the battery is good?

How old is the tab and about how low do you usually let it drop in charge before charging it? Batteries don't last forever.
