Galaxy Avant Google Maps compass

Hello,

I was wondering if there is a way to reset or update the compass feature on the Google Maps app. We have two Galaxy Avant phones and one of them shows the direction perfectly.. and no matter how you move the phone on the vertical or horizontal axis, the location stays dead on in the right direction.. however on the other phone the direction is off and struggles to keep up with my turning around.. and when I move the phone up or down on the vertical axis the direction arrow moves as though i'm turning right or left. Is this a damaged phone or does anyone know what is going on? Identical phones, one of them works perfectly.. the other has the above mentioned problem.

Take the "bad" phone. Turn it 3 turns around each axis, then check the compass. (GPS Status & Toolbox is a good app to use for that.) Some phones of the same model need to be calibrated every once in a while because they gt near something magnetic. (My Note 3 decalibrates every time I put it on my desk.)
