Do I need a carrier to use a carrier-locked tablet?

A

AC Question

It feels like I'm asking a stupid question, but I'm thinking of buying a tablet and I only need it for home use, so I'm okay with just using Wi-Fi. If I buy, say, a Verizon Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, do I have to worry about the carrier designation at all if I don't plan to get a data plan, and instead just use my own Wi-Fi?

Not a stupid question at all.
Most, if not all of the carrier tablets will have the ability to access data so you will have to pay for a plan even though you will nearly never use it.
A Wi-Fi only Kindle may be the way to go.
Just my $.02

Just because it CAN access mobile data didn't mean it has to have service activated. Why are you looking at that rather than the WiFi version?
